While Scott is away shooting new campaign images with the Gypsea production team, we thought we’d introduce you to Gypsea’s incredibly talented swimwear designer, Emma Jones, who lives with her family in picturesque Bali, drawing inspiration from the beautiful Balinese culture to design and manufacture our wearable art.
Bali is a country that has always been close to Emma’s heart. She moved there from Western Australia after spending every school holiday visiting her mother who works producing fashion garments. Emma’s love of swimwear design developed from a young age, but it didn’t become a career until she met her husband, Professional surfer Mikala Jones from Hawaii. Their dream was to make their own money so they could travel the world together. So, with a little encouragement from her husband, Emma bought her own sewing machines and employed machinists to manufacture her designs. Emma’s company has now been running successfully for eleven years, employing 150 people and producing swimwear for labels across the globe.
A typical day for Emma’s is jam packed, her day starts getting her daughters Isabella & Violet to the local international school. Then Emma is off to work where her day is filled meeting shipment deadlines. But as soon as the kids are home Emma’s working day finishes and she is home dedicating the rest of her day to her two beautiful girls.
Gypsea is a labour of love for Scott and Emma. They both work together to incorporate Scott’s world class pictures and images from collaborating artists into the swimwear, manipulating the images and styles together to ensure every piece is a flattering and striking work of art. Emma says “Gypsea is something I love working on as it’s creative and challenging. Designing each and every garment takes many hours BUT it’s incredibly enjoyable and I love it.”
